Six Senior Advocates Appointed as Additional Solicitors General of India

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, through the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), has announced the appointment of six Senior Advocates as Additional Solicitors General (ASG) for the Supreme Court of India. 

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved these appointments for a tenure of three years from the date of assumption of office or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The newly appointed Additional Solicitors General are:

  1. S. Dwarakanath
  2. Archana Pathak Dave
  3. Satya Darshi Sanjay
  4. Brijender Chahar
  5. Raghavendra P. Shankar
  6. Rajkumar Bhaskar Thakare (Raja Thakare)

The appointment of Additional Solicitors General plays a pivotal role in strengthening India’s legal administration. They assist the Solicitor General and the Attorney General in representing the Union of India in significant cases before the Supreme Court. Their responsibilities include arguing cases, providing legal opinions to government ministries, drafting submissions, and ensuring that the government’s position is effectively presented in critical constitutional, regulatory, and statutory matters.

Additionally, the ASGs collaborate closely with senior government officials, advising on legal strategies and litigation processes. Their expertise ensures that the government’s interests are safeguarded in court, particularly in policy challenges, tax disputes, and constitutional interpretations.

The official notification, dated September 9, 2024, was issued by Kundan Nath, Under Secretary (EO.SM-II), Department of Personnel & Training. It was endorsed by Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary of the Department of Legal Affairs, and formally communicated to key government bodies, including the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Cabinet Secretariat, and the Guard File.

This appointment reinforces the government’s commitment to ensuring robust legal representation in vital judicial matters, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the nation’s legal framework.
