FAKE NEWS ALERT | BCI Introduces Mandatory Minimum Fee Structure for Advocates Across India

In a recent wave of misinformation, social media platforms have been abuzz with claims that the Bar Council of India (BCI) has introduced a mandatory minimum fee structure for advocates practicing across the country. The news, which spread like wildfire, alleges that advocates will now be required to charge clients a standard minimum fee depending on the nature of the legal services provided.

“In exercise of the powers conferred under the Advocates Act, 1961, the Bar Council of India hereby notifies the mandatory minimum fee structure applicable to all practicing advocates across India. This structure shall be followed by all advocates from March 1, 2025. The prescribed minimum fees are fixed, while the maximum fees may vary depending upon the seniority and expertise of the advocate,” the fake notification read.
