The salary of a Company Secretary (CS) in India can vary depending on various factors such as experience, industry, company size, and location. On average:

For Freshers

A newly qualified Company Secretary can earn between ₹30,000 to ₹60,000 per month. In smaller firms or regions outside metro cities, this may be on the lower end, while in top law or consultancy firms in metro cities, it can be higher.

With Experience (2-5 years)

A Company Secretary with 2-5 years of experience can earn between ₹60,000 to ₹1,50,000 per month.

Senior/Experienced CS (5+ years)

For senior professionals with over 5 years of experience, the salary may range from ₹1,50,000 to ₹4,00,000 or more per month, depending on the level of responsibility and the size of the company.

Top companies, large corporations, or MNCs often offer higher salaries compared to smaller or regional firms. Additionally, salaries in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai tend to be on the higher side.

Salary of Company Secretary in Government sector

The salary of a Company Secretary (CS) in the government sector in India typically varies based on the specific role, level, and the organization. A CS in the government sector may work in public sector enterprises (PSEs), statutory bodies, or government ministries.

Entry-level (Government-owned Corporations / Statutory Bodies)

For entry-level roles, a Company Secretary can expect a salary in the range of ₹50,000 to ₹80,000 per month, depending on the organization.

Mid-level (with 5-10 years of experience)

A CS with moderate experience can earn around ₹80,000 to ₹1,50,000 per month in the government sector.

Senior-level (Above 10 years of experience or at top positions like Company Secretary in a PSE)

Senior-level Company Secretaries working in government organizations like Navratna or Maharatna public sector enterprises or in central government ministries may earn between ₹1,50,000 to ₹3,00,000 per month or more, depending on the level of responsibility and the scale of the organization.

Moreover, salaries in the government sector are usually structured based on the pay scale (such as the 7th Pay Commission) and may include additional perks such as allowances, bonuses, medical benefits, pension plans, etc.
