The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has promoted three officers namely S.K. Vimalanathan, Vimal Kumar Srivastava and Rajendra Singh of the 1992 batch of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) to the grade of Principal Chief Commissioner/Principal Director General of Customs & Indirect Taxes.

The promotions have been approved against the panel year 2026 in Level 17 of the Pay Matrix (Apex Scale).

The officers named in the order are S.K. Vimalanathan, Vimal Kumar Srivastava and Rajendra Singh, all belonging to the 1992 batch of the IRS (Customs & Indirect Taxes).

The order records that the President of India has approved their promotion to the higher grade.

The promotions will take effect from the date on which the respective officers assume charge of their promotional posts and will remain operative until further orders.

The effective date is therefore linked to each officer’s assumption of charge, rather than a common date specified for all three officers.

CBIC has clarified that the regular postings of the promoted officers will be decided in due course with the approval of the competent authority.

Until then, they will assume charge of their promotional posts on an “in situ (as is where is)” basis, allowing them to take charge at their existing place of posting pending a separate decision on regular postings.

The order does not assign the officers to any particular commissionerate, zone or directorate.

The Board has directed that compliance reports regarding the joining of the promoted officers be submitted immediately. Copies must also be endorsed to the Additional Director General (HRM-II), Directorate General of Human Resource Development (DGHRD).

The immediate administrative requirement is thus the assumption of charge and submission of joining reports, while regular postings will be determined separately.
