The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi, has booked a case of alleged smuggling of suspected marijuana/ganja against an Indian passenger who arrived from Bangkok on Flight No. AI-2303 on May 6, 2026.

According to Customs authorities, the passenger was intercepted at the Green Channel on the basis of profiling and intelligence inputs. The passenger was subsequently subjected to X-ray screening and a detailed examination of baggage.

During the search operation, Customs officers recovered 11 polythene pouches containing a green-coloured narcotic substance concealed inside a black trolley bag. The recovered substance was suspected to be ganja/marijuana.

Authorities stated that the total net weight of the seized contraband was found to be 5,467 grams. The seized narcotic substance is estimated to have a market value of approximately ₹5.467 crore.

Customs officials noted that the alleged act constitutes a violation of Section 8 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The offences are punishable under Sections 20, 23, and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Following the recovery, the passenger was arrested on May 6, 2026 under Section 43(b) of the NDPS Act. The contraband along with the packing material was also seized under Section 43(a) of the Act.

Officials confirmed that further investigation into the smuggling network and possible links connected to the narcotics trafficking operation is currently underway.
