In a significant enforcement action, officers of Ahmedabad Customs have seized a large consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) during a sea patrolling operation along the Gujarat coast. The interception took place on April 16, 2026, near the Kolak coast in Valsad district, where officials identified and stopped a suspicious boat.

Upon inspection, the officers recovered 555 boxes containing 18,672 bottles of IMFL, with an estimated market value of approximately ₹50 lakh. The seizure highlights continued vigilance by customs authorities in curbing illicit transportation and smuggling activities along coastal routes.

The boat used for transporting the contraband has also been seized. Eight individuals found on board were apprehended and subsequently handed over to the Gujarat Police for further legal action. Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to trace the origin and intended destination of the consignment, as well as to identify any larger network involved.

Officials indicated that coastal surveillance has been intensified in recent months, given the increasing attempts to move restricted or untaxed goods through maritime channels. The case remains under investigation.
