The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has ordered the removal of a CA Yogesh Parshottam Gori’s name was removed from its Register of Members for a period of one year after finding him guilty of professional and other misconduct. 

The decision came after a detailed disciplinary process, appellate review, and subsequent judicial proceedings. 

The Disciplinary Committee of ICAI, exercising powers under Section 21B(3) of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 read with Rule 18(17) of the Chartered Accountants (Procedure of Investigations of Professional and Other Misconduct and Conduct of Cases) Rules, 2007, held the member guilty of professional misconduct under Item (7) of Part I of the Second Schedule, along with other misconduct under Item (2) of Part IV of the First Schedule. 

Following due process, including providing the opportunity of being heard under Rule 19(1), the Disciplinary Committee directed that the member’s name be removed from the Register of Members for a period of one year. The misconduct findings indicate serious violations of professional standards expected from Chartered Accountants, warranting strict regulatory action.

Aggrieved by the order, the member approached the Appellate Authority under Section 22G of the Act. However, the Appellate Authority, in its order dated April 1, 2023, upheld the findings and decision of the Disciplinary Committee, thereby affirming the penalty imposed. 

Subsequently, the matter was carried to the Bombay High Court through a writ petition. The Court, however, dismissed the petition on January 28, 2026, citing non-prosecution, effectively allowing the disciplinary action to stand. 

Pursuant to the confirmed orders, ICAI has formally notified that the removal of the member’s name from the Register will take effect from April 15, 2026, for a duration of one year. This notification has been issued under Regulation 18 of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988 read with Section 20(2) of the Act.
