The Officers of Indian Customs at Indira Gandhi International Airport have busted a suspected drug smuggling attempt, seizing over 12.9 kg of ganja from a passenger arriving from Bangkok.

The operation was carried out by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) during surveillance of Flight No. 6E1064 (BKK–DEL). Based on profiling, customs officials intercepted a passenger upon arrival and subjected his baggage to X-ray screening, which revealed suspicious contents.

Upon detailed examination, officers recovered 13 polybags containing a green-colored substance believed to be ganja (marijuana). The gross weight of the seized material was approximately 13,220 grams, with a net weight of 12,910 grams. Authorities have estimated the value of the seized contraband at around ₹12.91 crore.

The seized substance, along with the packing materials, has been confiscated under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The passenger has been arrested under relevant sections of the same law.

Officials stated that further investigation is underway to trace the origin and intended destination of the narcotics, as well as to identify other individuals linked to the smuggling network.

This seizure highlights continued vigilance by customs authorities amid increasing attempts to traffic narcotics through international routes.
