The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has notified the transfer and postings of 669 Assistant Commissioner of Customs and Indirect Taxes grade officers.
The order mandates that all officers must be relieved immediately, and join their new place of posting on or before April 10, 2026.
In case, any of the officer is involved in any capacity in the ensuing general elections to Legislative Assemblies of the State of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal and UT of Puducherry and bye-elections to Assembly Constituencies of various States/ UT, then he/ she may be relieved only after completion of election process. Further, it may also be ensured that all the provisions of MCC are strictly adhered to.
By and large, the officers have been posted to GST/CX Zones only. The Placement in certain GST/ Customs CC Zones is done including combined vacancy position of some of the Customs (P) Zones. Accordingly, the officers posted in following C Zones are required to be shared with Customs (P) Commissionerate mentioned against these CC Zones apart from regular sharing with Customs CC Zones. For this purpose Pr. CC/CC of respective Customs (Preventive) Zones will be part of the Committee of Pr. Chief Commissioners/ Chief Commissioner in terms of para 3.2 of Transfer / Placement Guidelines, 2018.
The order also highlights a structured approach to manpower allocation. In several GST Zones, officers will be shared with Customs (Preventive) Commissionerates to optimize resource utilization. For instance Delhi GST Zone will coordinate with Delhi Customs and Customs (Preventive) formations; Lucknow GST Zone will align with Patna Customs (Preventive) Zone; and Chandigarh and Jaipur Zones will share resources with units under Delhi Customs (Preventive)
This integrated approach is aimed at improving coordination between GST and Customs formations.
The Zones concerned shall send the compliance regarding relieving and joining of the officers to the Board (with a copy endorsed to ADG (HRM-II, DGHRD) by 17th April, 2026.
Authorities have clarified that no representations regarding transfers will be entertained before joining, signaling a strict stance on compliance and administrative discipline.
