The Ministry of Finance has designated Judicial Members of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) as Vice Presidents for various State Benches.

The order, issued under the powers conferred by Section 109(7) of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, aims to strengthen the operational framework of GSTAT benches across the country. The appointments are expected to facilitate smoother adjudication of GST disputes and improve the efficiency of appellate mechanisms under the GST regime.

As per the notification, a total of 22 Judicial Members have been designated as Vice Presidents for their respective state benches, covering all major regions of India. This move is seen as a step toward enhancing institutional capacity and ensuring uniformity in appellate proceedings.

Appointments made under statutory powers of the CGST Act, 2017. Covers GSTAT benches across all states and union territories. Intended to streamline dispute resolution and reduce litigation backlog. Judicial Members elevated as Vice Presidents for administrative and judicial efficiency
