The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has announced that registrations are now open for the Eligible Manufacturer Importer (EMI) Scheme, enabling qualified businesses to apply through the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) portal

The announcement was made through CBIC’s official communication channels, inviting eligible manufacturers and importers to register and avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits.

The EMI Scheme forms part of the broader trade facilitation initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Finance (India) to streamline customs procedures and promote ease of doing business for trusted entities involved in international trade.

Registration Through AEO Portal

According to CBIC, eligible applicants can now register for the EMI Scheme via the AEO portal available at aeoindia.gov.in. The portal is integrated with India’s AEO framework, which aims to recognize compliant and reliable trade partners by granting them simplified customs procedures and faster clearances.

Under the current process, businesses must first complete their registration on the AEO portal. Once the registration is successfully submitted, the applicant will receive an email confirmation from the authorities. After receiving the confirmation, the applicant will be able to proceed with the formal application submission for the EMI Scheme.

Objective of the EMI Scheme

The EMI Scheme is designed to facilitate legitimate manufacturers who also function as importers by granting them enhanced procedural benefits in customs operations. By integrating the scheme with the AEO system, CBIC aims to ensure that only compliant and trustworthy economic operators benefit from faster clearances and reduced compliance burdens.

The initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to strengthen India’s logistics ecosystem, improve supply chain efficiency, and reduce transaction costs for businesses engaged in cross-border trade.
