The Income Tax Department of India has reminded taxpayers to pay the final instalment of their advance tax for the financial year 2025–26 by March 15, 2026, urging individuals and businesses to comply with the statutory requirement and avoid penalties.

In a public advisory released through its official channels, the department asked taxpayers to “save the date” and ensure that 100% of their advance tax liability for FY 2025–26 is paid on or before March 15, 2026. The communication forms part of the government’s ongoing outreach efforts to improve voluntary tax compliance.

Advance tax refers to the system under which taxpayers are required to pay income tax in instalments during the financial year instead of paying the entire amount at the end of the year while filing returns. The mechanism applies to individuals, professionals, and businesses whose estimated tax liability exceeds the prescribed threshold.

According to tax rules, advance tax is typically paid in four instalments during the financial year. The March 15 deadline represents the final instalment, ensuring that taxpayers have settled their entire advance tax obligation before the close of the financial year.

Tax officials said timely payment helps taxpayers avoid interest charges under Sections 234B and 234C of the Income Tax Act, which may be levied for underpayment or delayed payment of advance tax. Authorities also noted that compliance ensures smoother processing of income tax returns and refunds.

The department has also encouraged taxpayers to use the online e-payment facilities available on the official income tax portal, making the payment process quicker and more convenient.

For assistance, taxpayers may contact the department’s helpline numbers or visit the official website to access detailed guidance on advance tax calculation and payment procedures.

With the deadline approaching, the tax department has advised taxpayers to review their income estimates and complete the payment in time to remain compliant with tax regulations.
