3 IRS Officers Promoted to Principal Commissioner Of Customs & Indirect Taxes

The Finance Ministry has issued an office order promoting 3 senior officers of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) namely Amita Singh, Arvind Madhavan and  Jeetesh Nagori to the grade of Principal Commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes for the panel year 2026.

According to Office Order No. 29/2026 dated February 26, 2026, issued by the Ministry of Finance under the Department of Revenue and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), the President of India has approved the empanelment and promotion of the following officers to Level 15 of the Pay Matrix (HAG):

  • Amita Singh (Emp. ID 939/1997; Date of Birth: 09.07.1971)
  • Arvind Madhavan (Emp. ID 940/1997; Date of Birth: 19.08.1972)

In addition, the President has also approved the empanelment and promotion of Jeetesh Nagori (Emp. ID 941; Batch 1997; Date of Birth: 04.05.1975)** to the same rank.

Effective Date and Conditions

The promotions will take effect from the date the officers assume charge of their new posts. However, in the case of Amita Singh and Arvind Madhavan, the promotion shall not precede the date of assumption of charge as Chief Commissioner by Shri Kul Prakash Singh and Shri Shiv Kumar Sharma, as specified in the order.

For Jeetesh Nagori, the promotion will be effective from the date of assumption of charge, but not prior to March 1, 2026.

Posting and Administrative Directions

The order clarifies that the regular postings of the promoted officers will be decided in due course with the approval of the competent authority. Until then, they will assume charge of the promotional post on an in situ basis (as is where is basis).

Further, compliance reports regarding the joining of the officers are to be submitted to the Board immediately, with a copy endorsed to ADG (HRM-II), DGHRD.
