The Customs Department at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport) has booked a case against a woman passenger holding a United States passport after recovering undeclared foreign-origin goods and currency collectively valued at ₹5.42 crore.
According to official sources, the passenger arrived at Terminal-3 from Hong Kong on Flight No. CX-695. Acting on spot profiling, Customs officers intercepted the passenger upon arrival and subjected her baggage to X-ray screening. This was followed by a detailed physical examination in accordance with prescribed legal procedures.
During the examination, officials recovered substantial quantities of high-value items that had not been declared before Customs authorities. The seized goods included approximately 1.2 kilograms of gold and diamond jewellery, 10 kilograms of silver utensils, and several luxury wristwatches of premium international brands such as Rolex, Bvlgari, Chopard, and Cartier.
In addition to the jewellery and watches, Customs officials also recovered foreign currency amounting to 9,084 US Dollars, 605 Euros, and 2,540 Hong Kong Dollars, which were allegedly not declared as required under law.
Officials stated that the total value of the seized goods has been assessed at ₹5.42 crore. As the items were allegedly brought into the country without declaration, in violation of the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, they were seized under Section 110 of the Act.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the goods and the intended purpose of their import. Customs authorities are also examining whether the case involves organized smuggling activity or evasion of applicable duties.
The passenger may face adjudication proceedings under the Customs Act, 1962, which could result in confiscation of goods, imposition of penalties, and possible prosecution depending on the outcome of the investigation.
