GSTAT Constituted in Chennai; Judicial, Technical Members Assume Charge

The Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has been formally constituted at Chennai with the appointment of Judicial and Technical Members. The newly appointed members assumed charge at the Chennai Bench on January 21, 2026 (forenoon), marking a crucial step towards strengthening the appellate framework under the GST regime.

The Chennai Bench of the GST Appellate Tribunal will comprise the following members Sheik Khader Rahman, [Technical Member (Centre)], Praveen Kumar Jain, (Judicial Member) and Girish Kumar Vyas (Judicial Member)

The assumption of charge by the members brings long-awaited operational momentum to the GST Appellate Tribunal at Chennai, which is expected to play a pivotal role in resolving GST-related disputes arising from orders passed by appellate authorities under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 and the respective State GST laws.
