The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has busted a clandestine MD (Mephedrone) manufacturing laboratory in Madhya Pradesh, seizing a record 31.250 kilograms of MD powder along with massive quantities of precursor chemicals and equipment used for illicit drug production.

The operation was carried out on January 10, 2026, by officers of the CBN, Madhya Pradesh Unit, at Teerth Nursery and Farms, located in Village Amla Agar, Tehsil Agar, District Agar-Malwa. The action forms part of the Government of India’s national objective of “Nasha Mukt Bharat” (Drug-Free India).

Acting on specific and reliable intelligence inputs, a coordinated team of CBN officers conducted a strategic raid at the nursery premises. The location—a double-storeyed farmhouse situated nearly 3.5 kilometres away from the main road—was found to be deliberately chosen for its seclusion, indicating an attempt to conceal large-scale illegal activity.

During the operation, three persons were detained from the premises. A thorough search of the farmhouse led to the recovery of 31.250 kilograms of MD powder concealed in a bag inside the house.

Upon sustained questioning, the detained individuals admitted that the seized psychotropic substance had been manufactured clandestinely by them. They further disclosed the existence of a fully operational drug manufacturing laboratory set up within one of the rooms on the nursery premises.

Following this disclosure, CBN officers recovered utensils and machinery used in the synthesis of MD powder and halogen bulbs and other equipment essential for illicit manufacturing.

Additionally, a Mahindra Bolero Pickup vehicle parked near the entrance of the premises was searched, resulting in the seizure of approximately 600 kilograms of various chemicals used in the manufacture of MD powder.

Investigations revealed that two of the arrested persons were directly involved in large-scale MD manufacturing. During interrogation, they disclosed that they possessed sufficient chemicals—barring one key precursor—to manufacture approximately 250 to 300 kilograms of MD powder, underscoring the magnitude of the illegal operation and the serious threat it posed to public health and national security.

All three accused have been arrested under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The seized MD powder, chemicals, equipment, and vehicle have been taken into custody as per legal procedure.

CBN officials stated that further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain of precursor chemicals, identify financiers, and dismantle the entire drug manufacturing and trafficking network from top to bottom.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance approach towards narcotics, the Central Bureau of Narcotics affirmed its unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and illicit drug manufacturing.

“The CBN remains resolute in its mission to make India drug-free by relentlessly targeting and dismantling narcotics networks across the country,” the agency said.
