CBIC Issues Office Order on Temporary Attachment of IRS (C&IT) Officers

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), under the Ministry of Finance, has issued Office Order No. 185/2025 dated 28 November 2025, detailing the temporary attachment of several IRS (Customs & Indirect Taxes) officers to various zones and directorates. The order has been issued with the approval of the competent authority.

According to the directive, the officers are being attached solely for the purpose of drawing their pay, allowances, and leave entitlements from the date of their joining the Board upon repatriation from deputation or study leave. This arrangement will continue until they receive regular postings or until further orders, whichever occurs earlier.

The officers listed in the order include Chief Commissioners, Commissioners, Additional Commissioners and a Deputy Commissioner from different batches of the IRS (C&IT). Their temporary attachments span multiple formations across the country, including DG Audit, DGARM Delhi, GST & CX zones in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, and DG Systems & Data Management in Chennai.

The list includes:

  • A Chief Commissioner from the 1992 batch attached to DG Audit with effect from 1 October 2025.
  • A Commissioner from the 2005 batch placed with the Panchkula GST & CX Appeals unit from 24 November 2025 (FN).
  • A 2007 batch Commissioner posted to DGARM Delhi from 18 November 2025 (FN).
  • An Additional Commissioner from the 2009 batch attached to the Hyderabad GST & CX Zone with effect from 3 November 2025 (AN).
  • Another Additional Commissioner of the same batch placed with DG Systems & Data Management, Chennai from 25 November 2025 (FN).
  • A Deputy Commissioner from the 2014 batch attached to the Ahmedabad GST & CX Zone from 21 November 2025.

The order specifies that the Hindi version will be issued subsequently. It has been signed by S. Lianlalmuana, Under Secretary to the Government of India. Copies of the directive have been circulated to the concerned officers as well as to all Principal Chief Commissioners, Principal Directors General, Chief Commissioners, and Directors General of Customs and Indirect Taxes for necessary compliance.

The temporary attachments are part of routine administrative processes within the CBIC to ensure seamless personnel management during periods of repatriation and pending allocation of regular postings.
