The Finance Ministry has extended the tenure of Ms. Mamta Shankar, Whole-Time Member (Economics) of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), until she attains the age of 62 years—i.e., up to September 13, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The decision has been notified under Section 4 of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Act, 2013. Ms. Shankar’s current term was originally set to conclude on April 9, 2026, and the extension ensures continuity in the leadership of the regulatory body responsible for overseeing India’s National Pension System (NPS) and other pension-related reforms.

As the Whole-Time Member (Economics) at PFRDA, Ms. Shankar plays a key role in policy formulation, economic oversight, and development of India’s pension regulatory framework.
