Delhi Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport foiled a gold smuggling attempt on Friday after intercepting a female passenger arriving from Yangon by Flight No. 8M 620.

The passenger was stopped while attempting to exit through the green channel, designated for travellers with no dutiable goods to declare. Upon conducting a personal search, officials recovered six gold bars weighing 997.5 grams, concealed in the passenger’s undergarments.

The gold, valued at nearly ₹70 lakh, was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation into the case is underway to trace the source and intended recipients of the smuggled gold.

This interception underscores the vigilance of Delhi Customs in curbing gold smuggling and safeguarding India’s economic interests.
