The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has prohibited import of areca nuts below Rs. 351 per kg.

The notification has amended the import policy and policy conditions for Areca Nuts falling under ITC (HS) Codes 08028090 and 20081991 of the ITC (HS) 2022 Schedule-I (Import Policy).

According to the new directive, the import of Areca Nuts with a CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) value below ₹351 per kilogram is now prohibited. However, imports priced at or above ₹351 per kilogram will remain free.

The DGFT further clarified that this minimum import price condition will not apply to 100% Export-Oriented Units (EOUs), Special Economic Zone (SEZ) units, and Imports under the Advance Authorization Scheme.

The policy change also extends to roasted Areca Nuts under ITC (HS) Code 20081991. Imports of roasted areca nuts valued below ₹351/kg are similarly prohibited, while all other roasted nuts and seeds remain freely importable.
