International Courier Cargo Terminals Inaugurated at Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode

P. Rajeeve, Minister for Industries, Law and Coir inaugurated the terminals at Thiruvananthapuram and Calicut, at a function held today at the Trivandrum Air Cargo Terminal, Shanghumughom.

Chief Commissioner of CGST & Customs, Thiruvananthapuram Zone Sri. Shaik Khader Rahman, IRS kickstarted the operations of the terminal by the ceremonial launch of a button.

The programme included active participation of several distinguished dignitaries including Adv. Antony Raju, MLA, Thiruvananthapuram, Sri. T.V. Ibrahim, MLA, Kondotty, Sri. P. Abdul Hameed, MLA, Vallikkunnu, Adv. Peelipose Thomas, Chairman KSIE etc.

In his address, the Minister emphasized the pivotal role of modern courier cargo facilities in enhancing Kerala’s global trade competitiveness and supporting the state’s vision for industrial growth. The minister also thanked the Customs Department for the support extended by providing in principle approval to the International Courier Terminals. 

Chief Commissioner CGST & Customs Sri. Shaik Khader Rahman, IRS emphasized on how the same would benefit the large number of non-resident Keralites in sending goods and personal effects to their family as well as boost cross border e-commerce for sellers based in Kerala. The Chief Commissioner assured that the Customs department will focus on ensuring “speed with integrity” in the functioning of the terminals. 

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) vide Notification No. 27/2018 dated 28.03.2018 had notified 13 international airports including Kochi, Calicut and Thiruvananthapuram as International Courier Terminals. However, till date, courier facility was available only at Kochi airport in Kerala. 

The inauguration marked the launch of the physical infrastructure for the international courier terminals at Trivandrum and Calicut, which will enable a faster clearance of courier goods for the regions of South and North Kerala, respectively. 

The presence of these three International Courier Terminals will advance Kerala’s trade infrastructure and facilitate efficient global logistics, further reinforcing the state’s role as a hub for industrial and commercial progress.
