Know Kishori Lal Appointed As Technical Member, GST Appellate Tribunal: Know Him

Kishori Lal, a seasoned officer of the 1989 batch of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes), has recently been appointed as the Technical Member (Centre) of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT).

With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, he has served in various capacities across Customs, Central Excise, Service Tax, GST, and Narcotics wings of the CBIC. His postings have included key locations such as Kolkata, Gwalior, Bareilly, Aligarh, Kanpur, Mumbai, Patna, and Chandigarh.

A prolific writer, Mr. Lal has authored notable books including:

  • Export Import: Law, Procedures and Policy
  • Interpretation of Fiscal Statutes
  • Interpretation of Indirect Tax Statutes including GST
  • GST Law Simplified

Post-retirement, he brought his expertise to the private sector, working with Ernst & Young on a major automation project for GST and VAT administration in Rajasthan. He is currently associated with Infosys as a Domain Expert for the GSTN (Goods and Services Tax Network) project.

In addition to his administrative and technical roles, Mr. Lal has contributed to litigation as well, having served briefly as Senior Standing Counsel for CBIC in the Delhi High Court and as Special Counsel for CESTAT.

His appointment brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the GSTAT, promising robust adjudication in GST-related disputes.
