250 E-Cigarettes Seized by Trichy Customs from Passenger Arriving from Kuala Lumpur

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Trichy Customs intercepted a passenger who arrived from Kuala Lumpur at Tiruchirappalli International Airport on July 20, 2025, by Flight No. AK25. Upon examination of his checked-in luggage, officers uncovered a concealed consignment of e-cigarettes.

A total of 250 e-cigarettes—branded as “ELFBAR” and packed in various flavors including Grape Bubblegum, Lychee Juicy Peach, and Double Mango—were recovered. The estimated value of the seized goods is approximately Rs. 6.25 lakh.

The seized items were found to be in violation of existing laws regulating the import of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), which are banned in India under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019.

Customs officials have initiated a detailed investigation into the source, purpose, and network behind the smuggling attempt.
