ED Notifies Additional Special Courts To Fast-Track PMLA Trials Across States

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has taken a significant step towards expediting trials under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 by notifying the establishment of Additional Special Courts for trial of PMLA cases in states where the number of such Courts was previously inadequate, leading to delays in trial proceedings.

In the State of Telangana, a total of 16 Special Courts have now been notified, including 2 for Visakhapatnam. In Rajasthan, the number of Special Courts has been increased from one (earlier only at Jaipur) to five, including one for Jodhpur. In Goa, an exclusive Special Court for North Goa has been notified; previously, there was only one Special Court for the entire state.

With the addition of these Special Courts, the Directorate will be able to significantly accelerate trial proceedings in PMLA cases. This initiative is also expected to address the concerns of the Constitutional Courts regarding delays in money laundering trials.
